Australian composer and pianist Gerd Winter finds his musical inspiration in nature. Born and raised in Germany, he worked also as a scientist, and then journalist and publisher in many parts of the world, finally settling with his family in Australia.
"Wherever I was, I always felt at home once I was in nature, and I express this connection in most of my compositions.
"Music can channel how we feel in natural environments."
Gerd, who also plays flute and guitar, loves to collaborate, for example with Sydney saxophonist Mark Eliott on 'Conversations'. He also loves performing outdoors, such as with Piano in the Park at Adelaide's Nature Festival.
Playing in urban parks, Gerd's performances have become a popular feature of the unique annual festival that celebrates nature and the relationship between people and the natural world.
